The mountain

Today I climbed the mountain

seeking solitude

to the smell of fresh rain on pine.

I travelled light, carrying only one desire -

to close the divide

between inner

and outer.

I walked my spirit up into the forest

while mud licked at laces

and light glittered through the canopy.

I tirelessly traversed the contours of my mind,

until finally lost in meditation -

communing

with the divine.

I ascended through the trees,

steadily closing distance with sky

until the sun caressed my skin.

Heart humble, my light shone back brightly -

both I, and the cosmos

glowing

as one.

I came to lie in the high meadow,

flush with flowers purple

and butterflies gold.

Sunbathing in self-love

my soul knelt all around me in prayer -

receiving all;

returning more.

I later gave way to the sun

on our mutual descent from the heavens -

pausing, as colour streaked across the evening sky.

Embraced in my own devotion,

I smiled at the thought - why yes!

Tomorrow I shall return here

once more.
